Study: Acupuncture Can Prevent Stress

Acupuncture
The practice of acupuncture is often used to reduce stress since the days of our fathers. But biological evidence of how this practice can reduce stress can still be said to be minimal.

Finally, a group of researchers at Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Studies probed further about the biological mechanisms related to the ability of acupuncture to relieve stress.

In a study published in the Journal of Endocrinology, the researchers used mice as experimental objects. They designed a series of tests with an electronic acupuncture. The goal is to ensure that every mouse gets the same treatment.

Researchers targeting acupuncture points below the knee or point of "Zusanli". This area is an area that is similar in humans and reportedly stimulates it can reduce stress.

During the ten days of the experiment, researchers separated the rats into four groups. The first group was the control group with no acupuncture treatment. Then the second group is made of stress for an hour every day with no acupuncture treatment.

The third group is made of stress for an hour every day, but getting acupuncture treatment "sham" on the tail, and the fourth group is stressed and received acupuncture treatment at Zusanli area.

Mice secrete a variety of hormones in the bloodstream in response to stress. The researchers then measured blood levels of hormones released by the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal glands are the three called hypothalamus pituitary adrenal axis (HPA).

They also measured the peptide contained in or referred NPY rats. As a result, electronic acupuncture can prevent stress.

"Electronic Acupuncture banish chronic stress caused an increase in HPA axis hormones," said one of the researchers, Dr. Ladan Eshkevari as reported by the Huffington Post page.
